New Report Highlights Central Hudson’s $2.6 Billion Economic Support to the Mid-Hudson Region
Benefits to the Region Include $100 Million in Tax Revenue and Support for More Than 5,000 Jobs

Central Hudson Gas & Electric infuses nearly $2.6 billion into the Hudson Valley economy, according to a recent report. As a part of these findings, the report, prepared by MRB Group, shows that Central Hudson’s operations support 5,325 jobs and generate $100 million in tax revenue for local communities.

“Utilities are the engines for economic security in the communities they serve,” said Stephanie Raymond, President and CEO of Central Hudson. “These findings not only showcase our economic impact but reinforce our unwavering commitment to building a stronger, more affordable and resilient region where families, businesses, and communities can thrive.”

MRB Group compiled data provided by Central Hudson Gas & Electric, including employment, wages, and taxes paid by the company from 2020 to 2023, data from Esri Business Analyst Online and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. The economic impact models were calculated using an industry-leading software, Lightcast.

 

Community Investment

Central Hudson’s commitment to the Hudson Valley extends beyond its fiscal contributions. Over the past three years, the company has:

  • Invested $950,000 in economic development programs, fostering local manufacturing and revitalizing communities.
  • Contributed $2 million to philanthropic activities, including education, health, and environmental initiatives.

Fiscal Impact

Central Hudson contributes more than $100 million in tax revenue annually to local municipalities, including:

  • $59.5 million in property taxes distributed to towns, counties, villages, and schools in 2023. The majority of this goes directly to area school districts to support essential education programs.
  • $19.8 million in income taxes driven by direct and indirect employment.
  • $21.1 million in sales taxes and taxes from capital projects, employee spending, utility services, capital base, and highway use.
  • 5,325 total jobs supported, including 1,839 direct jobs, with $457 million in total wages paid, including $276 million directly from Central Hudson employees.
