In support of high-tech innovation in the Mid-Hudson Valley, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. has awarded the Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center (HVAMC) at SUNY New Paltz a $200,000 Wired Innovations grant. Central Hudson first partnered with the HVAMC at SUNY New Paltz in 2014, with an economic development grant of $250,000 to help establish a center for advanced manufacturing at the College, and has been a consistent supporter of advanced manufacturing at SUNY New Paltz in the years since.
“We are very grateful for the support we have received from Central Hudson,” said Daniel Freedman, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at SUNY New Paltz and Director of the Hudson Valley Advanced Manufacturing Center. “This grant has made it possible for the HVAMC to continue to make state-of-the-art 3D printing technology and expertise available to all types of business in the Hudson Valley”.
The HVAMC is a hub for innovation and a major production facility for companies seeking to print prototypes and manufactured items. The Center provides design education and makes the technology accessible to communities in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Through its additional $13 million dollar investment, the center constructed a new building to house the HVAMC and the college’s mechanical engineering program, and further enhanced its 3D metal printing capabilities to perform high-resolution printing of wax components and direct metal printing. According to the college, the center is projected to yield a regional economic impact of more than $75 million and create about 195 jobs during the next decade.
“This Wired Innovation grant is the second awarded by Central Hudson to the college to support innovation in manufacturing, which benefits the Mid-Hudson Valley,” said Anthony Campagiorni, Vice President of Customer Services & Regulatory Government Affairs at Central Hudson. He explained that the grant is funded through Central Hudson’s Economic Development program, and is focused on creating and supporting the growth and retention of high-tech manufacturing jobs. “The manufacturing industry job market is changing and evolving, and the HVAMC’s continued growth helps to support this transformation,” he said. “Central Hudson is pleased to continue our support of SUNY New Paltz with this grant, as we recognizes the importance of creating infrastructure space for innovation to help facilitate the growth of high-tech manufacturing jobs,” said Campagiorni.
