Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. is proud to receive the 2023 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for Sustained Excellence from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. It is the sixth consecutive year Central Hudson has been recognized by the Energy Star Program and the second year receiving the highest honor of sustained excellence.
Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services, and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health.
The Central Hudson residential lighting program incentivized 684,027 ENERGY STAR certified LEDs and saved 25,802 MWh between Nov. 1, 2021, and Oct. 31, 2022. Close to 3,000,000 ENERGY STAR certified LEDs have been incentivized since the beginning of the program in 2016, and almost 120,000 MWh have been saved. Customers also purchased more than 600 ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostats and more than 630 electric heat pump water heaters with the help of incentives and rebate programs. Central Hudson’s New York State Clean Heat Program continues to offer incentives that can save customers thousands on ground and air-source heat pumps as well.
In addition, Central Hudson helped recycle more than 2,000 refrigerators and freezers and provided incentives for the purchase of variable speed pool pumps.
“As we accelerate historic efforts to address climate change, public-private partnerships will be essential to realizing the scale of our ambition,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I applaud this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for working with EPA to deliver a clean energy future that saves American consumers and businesses money and creates jobs.”
“Central Hudson is fully committed to helping New York reach it’s nation-leading carbon reduction goals and energy efficiency programs are a highly cost-effective strategy to meet them,” said Christopher Capone, President and CEO of Central Hudson. “The programs and incentives provided to our customers have a real impact and we’re honored to be recognized by the EPA for these efforts.”
