Behind every power line, natural gas main, bridge, tunnel, road, vehicle and building is an engineer whose scientific knowledge and creativity led to its successful design and construction.

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. celebrates engineers’ achievements and positive contributions to our quality of life during national Engineers Week, held each February. The National Society of Professional Engineers launched Engineering Week in 1951 to highlight contributions of engineers, increase public dialogue about the need for engineers and bring engineering to life for students, educators and parents.

“All of the technology, infrastructure and equipment we use each day at Central Hudson was designed and developed by highly skilled engineers,” said Charles A. Freni, President and CEO. “The utility industry plays a key role in helping New York State reach its ambitious clean energy goals, and Central Hudson’s team of engineers will lead the way as we create a smart, technologically advanced electrical grid as well as a natural gas system that has the ability to deliver cleaner and reliable energy for decades to come.”

Central Hudson also participates in programs for college and high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in engineering and other fields. The internship program offers college students comprehensive and hands-on training and experience that helps with the transition from academic to professional life. The E-TECH (Engineering, Technology, Early College High School) academy offers Poughkeepsie High School Students the opportunity to earn workplace experience and both a high school diploma and a college associate degree from Dutchess Community College through an integrated sequence of course work and mentorship with engineering professionals.
