Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. was selected as a recipient of the 2020 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for outstanding efforts in promoting and educating its customers on energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR® certified products. This is Central Hudson’s third such recognition, receiving the Excellence in ENERGY STAR® Promotion award in 2018 and 2019.

The utility received the award for its outstanding efforts in multi-channel promotion and outreach in advancing featured ENERGY STAR® products.
Central Hudson’s 2019 achievements include:
- Launching instant rebate programs for ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostats ($40) and heat pump water heaters ($750, which increased to $1,000 in 2020);
- Partnering with lighting retailers to increase the number of store locations offering point-of-purchase instant Central Hudson rebates from 45 in 2018 to 75 in 2019. Since 2016, more than 1.9 million ENERGY STAR® light bulbs have been purchased by Central Hudson customers through the utility’s programs, saving nearly 75,000 MWh of energy annually; and
- Continuing to provide customers with the Appliance Recycling Program. By properly recycling older, functioning refrigerators and freezers and replacing with ENERGY STAR® certified models, Central Hudson customers save an average of 700 to 1,600 kWh per unit, see a reduction in annual electricity charges of about $100 and prevent harmful pollutants from entering the environment.
