Business Charging Incentives
The following may apply to businesses, local governments, educational institutions and more for the installation of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), also known as vehicle charging stations.
Central Hudson EV Programs
The Electric Vehicle (EV) Make Ready Program is available to Central Hudson commercial customers to help offset the upfront costs of building charging stations for light-duty or medium/heavy-duty EVs. Through this program, entities seeking to install or participate in the installation of Level 2 (L2) and/or Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) chargers can earn incentives that will offset a large portion of, or in some cases, all infrastructure costs associated with preparing a site for EV charger installation.
The Fleet Assessment Service is a valuable offering for Central Hudson’s customers that are considering electrifying their fleet of Light-duty, Medium-duty, or Heavy-duty vehicles. Participants can expect a customized, comprehensive report, one-on-one support, and help finding financial assistance to offset the cost of switching from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles.
Central Hudson’s Demand Charge Rebate Program will support commercial customers to reduce their operating costs of EV Chargers by providing an incentive against demand charge costs of hosting an electric vehicle charging station. Eligible customers could save up to 50% on traditional demand charges on their monthly bill by participating in the program.
State programs
New York State’s Charge Ready 2.0 program, announced in July 2023, is offering incentives of up to $4,000 per charger. This program can help to offset the cost of electric vehicle chargers themselves, which are not covered through Central Hudson’s existing Make Ready program. Act soon, as funds for the program are limited. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until December 31, 2025 or until funds run out.
Tax Credits
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) established a number of Clean Vehicle Credits. Businesses and tax-exempt organizations that buy a qualified commercial clean vehicle may qualify for a clean vehicle tax credit of up to $40,000 under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) 45W using a Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit.
There is a tax credit available to individuals for purchasing new, qualifying electric vehicles for which final assembly occurred in North America. There are different eligibility rules depending on if your vehicle was placed in service in 2023 and after or in 2022 and before.
There is also a credit for individuals for the purchase of a qualified used electric vehicle (EV) or fuel cell vehicle (FCV) from a licensed dealer for $25,000 or less using the Used Clean Vehicle Credit.

The Direct Current Fast Charger Incentive Program
This is a statewide incentive program established for utilities to provide an annual per-plug incentive to encourage deployment of public direct current fast charging. This program is geared toward commercial accounts and other large organizations. The incentive is based on the year of participation, declining annually by one-seventh throughout the seven-year program period. As of March 20, 2023, new applications for the DCFC PPI Program are no longer being accepted. The contents of the PPI Program page have been preserved for archival purposes here.
